We're thrilled to introduce you to the work of Sofia Verzbolovskis, one of Popupla's 24 Best Travel Photographers. The New York City-based, Panamanian photographer takes us through her artistic process.
Tell us a little about yourself.
I am a Panamanian documentary and travel photographer based in New York. Wherever I go, I like to wander around and get lost. There's nothing better than discovering a new place without a set itinerary. I'm always drawn to places where different cultures collide and intersect.
How would you describe your photography style?
My work is rooted in the documentary tradition, always looking for unexpected moments in the streets. However, I like to combine that with my love of architecture, whether it's an old, crumbling facade, a modern building, or a geometric pattern. They often become the frame for whatever it is that I am shooting.
What do you love most about photographing on the road?
You never know what or who you are going to come across. I like the spontaneity of it.
Where are you headed next?
I'm going home to Panama in December to finish a project with the Embassy of France called Huellas Francesas about French influences in Panama, both historical and current.
