Americans spent much of last week celebrating Independence Day with fireworks. These terrific photos shows how people around the world — from sleepy villages to iconic monuments — celebrate their local pyrotechnic flair. — Pavia, CEO

The Kumaon in the Himalayas

I have good friends who went to the Himalayas recently to do some hardcore trekking. Their stories are impressive but I feel I would be much more suited to the kind of experience The Kumaon offers. The ten-suite mountain retreat tucked into the Nanda Devi Range seems like the perfect balance between humble (so I can still call it a retreat) and sophisticated, which is not always the case with luxury hotels. – Pauline,

There isn’t a much more picturesque option for a Sydney breakfast than somewhere beachside. So The Pantry Manly – a breakfast-to-dinner eatery perched by Sydney’s Manly Beach – is the trifecta: next to the swell, championing local and seasonal produce, and celebrating all-day leisure. – Riley,

I've been working away on The Lisbon guide — full of the most beautiful design addresses in Lisbon, most of which just opened their doors. Expect restaurants with superb views, the best breakfast places, a lot of vegan restaurants and shops, a stunning restaurant filled with plants in a former factory, and the beautiful Santa Clara 1728 hotel (see cover). The guide, available in online and printed versions, is 100 pages with a map on the last. Plan your daily route from one spot to the other while seeing the most colorful houses, trams, and viewpoints. – Pauline,

The bobsleigh track that was left behind after the 1984 Winter Olympics in Sarajevo is a worthwhile escape to nature today. Graffiti-covered and surrounded by beautiful forest on Mount Trebević, it makes for a great hike, though you can also catch the brand new cable car there from the city center. – Samra,
