Luxury train travel had a moment this past year, thanks in part to Kenneth Branagh’s remake of Murder on the Orient Express. Could 2018 be all about luxury bus travel? Maybe. I’m dying to test out Cabin, a new bus service between LA and San Francisco with lie-flat, private sleeper cubicles. Trips leave at 11 p.m. and arrive at 7 a.m. in either direction, so you don’t lose out on any daylight. – Amelia,

On a stopover in Singapore this week, I went to a new Parisian-inspired cafe in the hip neighborhood of Tiong Bahru. Merci Marcel is the latest project from Hui Designs, architects behind other such local hotspots as Super Loco and Café Privé. Word to the wise: Get a seat on the back patio and order the eggs Benedict. The ham is fantastic. – Daniel, Popupla editor

In the northern part of the Indian state of Kerala, gods come alive during an ancient ritual said to predate Hinduism: Theyyam. For hours on end, honorable men enter states of trance to channel deities during otherworldly dance rituals. Theyyam dance can only be seen in northern Kerala and southern parts of Karnataka state, and the best time to see a ritual is from October to January. – Sebastiaan,

Rotterdam is great for architecture and designer lovers. The iconic De Rotterdam building designed by Rem Koolhaas and De Erasmusbrug is a worthwhile site (take the water taxi to see it from the water), and so is the recently renovated Het Industriegebouw, an old industrial building turned co-working complex that houses shops and companies like MVRDV, the architects behind Rotterdam's De Markthal and Seoul’s Sky Garden. In bustling Hoogkwartier, go to  for all-day breakfast, for tacos, for local design, and for delicious pizzas. – Pauline,
